SEASONAL PATTERNS

2014-2015

Seasonal Patterns initially grew from my interest in memory building and recollection. Starting with dollar store items, I designed patterns from cheap, mass-produced goods that generalize the american lifestyle. When you see a watermelon do you remember its taste or the juice making your face sticky as you chomped into a slice as a child? Maybe you think of the beach. Maybe you hate watermelon. My expansion of these patterns through the backpacks, tombstones, and videos explore the varying relations we can have to these traditional symbols of seasons, holidays, and shared traditions.

I hope to continue working with the backpacks through engaging with the dementia community in Des Moines during the fall of 2016. Stay tuned for more information!
